Comparison of VISTA technique versus saddle flap technique with A-PRF for treatment of multiple gingival recessions

Abstract

Background:Root coverage procedures are important components for the treatment of gingival recessions. The most difficult situation is multiple gingival recessions. For some reasons this issue is important for patients and dentists. At the same time new surgical techniques for treating multiple gingival recessions are available. Thus, the aim of the current study is to examine and compare clinical outcomes of root coverage by the use of VISTA and saddle flap methods with Advanced Platelet Rich Fibrin (A-PRF)in treating various gingival recessions. Methodology:In this particular randomized, prospective, split-mouth clinical trial, using 108 Miller class I/II recession defects on 20 patients, each of the subjects was subjected to either the VISTA with A-PRF technique or the Saddle flap with A-PRF technique. Some clinical parameters such as recession depth (RD), recession width (RW), width of keratinized tissue (WKT), thickness of keratinized gingiva (TKG), the percentage of root coverage, and complete root coverage were evaluated before, 3 months after, and 6 months after surgery. Results: It has been established that both groups from the experimental work have manifested favorable outcomes with respect to the clinical parameters examined through the conducted trials. In this respect, it has been noted that there is a statistically substantial difference with regard to the efficiency of treatment obtained within the framework of A-PRF method through the application of VISTA method and Saddle procedure. Conclusion: VISTA with A-PRF showed predictable results in terms of all the root coverage parameters compared to Saddle flap technique with A-PRF.
